In a mixed Exchange 2007 and 2010 environment, when trying to access a the Role Based Authentication in Exchange 2010, you might get the error below.
I found that this was due to the mailbox for my admin user being still located on an Exchange 2007 server. I used the move mailbox wizard to move it over to the Exchange 2010 server and everything worked fine.

Wow – this just in that Steve Jobs has resigned as Apples CEO. No it’s not April 1st, it is in fact real – either that or Yahoo are playing tricks on us.
I wonder just how much an impact this will really make on Apple though. Thinking back to when Bill Gates announced he was stepping down from his CEO role @ Microsoft, it was a challenging time for sure. Some might say that when Bill did that, that Microsoft really become “just another software company” and some have suggested that Bill’s departure has left Microsoft wandering on it’s path for Windows everywhere.
One can only wonder if the same might happen with Apple. Without Jobs who was seen as the visionary that resurrected Apple to what it is today, will Apple really be the same in 5 years time? With the launch of the iPhone 5 coming soon, and the iPad 3 and rumours of new iMac about to be released, it’s certainly a good point for Jobs to stand down. At least the sales of those new toys won’t tank due to the new leader and the new leader will get a few months to really settle into the job before having the focus of the world turned upon him.
Good luck Mr Jobs – I hope that retirement helps your help recover.

Microsoft have released a number of updates specifically for SBS 2011 Essentials today. These updates fix specific issues that have been seen out there in the field by end users and resellers.
The first one here is Update Rollup 1 for SBS 2011 Essentials and includes fixes for 8 issues including migration issues, RWA domain name issues, Alerting issues, and some international character issues. It’s a must have fix for your SBS 2011 Essentials server. Whilst these are server side patches, you must also install an additional patch on the client side for all connected clients. It’s available here
The second patch here deals with further migration issues that occur due to one of the default group membership settings not being set correctly.

I was resisting the i movement and all things Apple, until I was given an iPad 6 months ago from someone as a thank you. I pledged never to buy an Apple product for myself, but playing with that iPad made me think twice – it’s not a desktop replacement at all, but I do find it handy for a few things that I just can’t do on a desktop or my laptop.
One of the cool things I like about the iPad is the AppStore – it’s certainly the one thing that Microsoft will need to conquer in order to get market penetration. One of the apps I’d been running was Skype – for the iPhone. So good was it that I actually went out and purchased an iPad 2 just so I could do video conferences using Skype from wherever I am, whenever I want – I love it. Sadly though the Skype application had limitations and because it was designed for the iPhone, it didn’t have the same video quality as the iPad could deliver. Well last week that all changed when Skype released their iPad version of Skype. I’ve only been using it for a short time and it’s certainly version 1, but the video quality is much better. The only other issue I’ve seen with it so far is that occasionally it will freeze the video and you can only fix it by stopping and starting the camera again – this happened more so from someone sending Video from Skype on a Windows machine in my testing.
Anyway – it’s free and it’s available now from the AppStore using the link below. Certainly worthwhile checking it out.

This was released last week – one of the first free books on Office 365. This book covers everything from getting started with Office 365 through to administration, and how to handle the more advanced things in Office 365 such as real time communication, and collaboration with Office 2010 Web Apps. There is a complete table of contents here if you want to read more about it, but heck – it’s a free book – why not go check it out.

Last week I highlighted 3 videos from Microsoft on how Office 365 works with SBS 2011 Essentials here, here and here. This week we need to look a little deeper into Office 365 to see if it’s right for your business or your customers business.
Like any new product released, there’s often a lot of hidden bits that you don’t find out until it’s too late. This site was based on trying to highlight those things to the average user or reseller around Small Business Server. It’s great to see therefore a similar MVP run site that is providing heaps of answers about Office 365 – and in particular one blog post about Office 365’s P Plan and everything you need to know about it. Check out the post here from Brett Hill on all the must know items about Office 365 – once you’ve read that then you are in a better position to ascertain if Office 365 is right for your business.
I’m not saying Office 365 is wrong – far from it – I’m trying to ensure that you make an educated decision about Office 365 before you commit your business to it.

Ok – so hopefully you will have reviewed the first two videos here and here and know a bit about Office 365 and SBS 2011 Essentials.
This last video shows how to get your domain name working with it all so you can complete the picture.
If you want to check out some non Microsoft resources on Office 365, then take a look at Robert Cranes offering here – he includes not only Sharepoint but also Office 365 information too.
